I suspect the slow reload speeds and more challenging iron sights create an environment that rewards patience as much as twitch-muscle reflexes. In Tannenberg, the playing field is much more level. In those games, it feels like you're totally hopeless against the hardcore players. Even so, this game feels way easier to me than Battlefield or COD. I should admit that I'm slightly obsessed with WW1, so maybe I was more prepared for the pace than most. I finally decided to grab Tannenberg over the weekend with the Steam sale, and I actually find this game quite approachable and forgiving. So I've been considering picking one of these games since I learned about Verdun, but was consistently turned off by reviews describing it as "hard" or a "mil-sim" or other similar comments which imply that you need to be a hardcore gamer to enjoy these games. It all comes together to evoke the feeling of actually being there in the muddy trenches of the Western Front or the snow covered forests of the Eastern Front, in the middle of one of the largest wars in history. Everything in the game has been tailored to recreate the grim atmosphere so typical of WW1, from the immersive interface and war torn maps to realistic sounds and voices. Uniforms have been recreated to the tiniest detail, the weapons are modeled to exact references and the maps use realistic props and terrain layouts. The developers have carried out extensive research and were advised by knowledgeable historians to make sure the individual elements in their games are as historically accurate as it can get.
